What is currently regarded as a by-product of the brewing industry could become a key ingredient in fish feed for aquaculture in the future.
An international team has developed a method that uses water from the beer-brewing process to cultivate microalgae for the production of more sustainable fish feed for aquaculture.
The research has shown that these microalgae can replace some of the fishmeal commonly used in aquaculture feed without affecting the growth of sea bream.
Furthermore, fish fed this feed showed improvements in indicators related to health and the immune system.
