On 26th of March 2026, Biotech Santé Bretagne, in partnership with the Cluster Algue Bretagne and Chambre Syndicale des Algues et Végétaux Marins, organized a collaborative workshop bringing together around forty stakeholders from the Breton algae sector.
The event took place in Brest, Brittany Region (France).
Participants at this 26 March workshop, representing the entire value chain (producers, harvesters, processors, clusters, technical centres, etc.), focused on four key themes:
- Regulatory barriers;
- Technical challenges (two aspects: Production/Harvesting & Processing);
- Business models and access to market;
- The environmental approach.
In addition to the workshop sessions, the programme also featured several presentations:
- Biotech Santé Bretagne and the Biochains Atlantic project were presented by the Biotech Santé Bretagne team.
- Cluster Algues Bretagne was presented by Caroline Peltier, and Chambre Syndicale des Algues et Végétaux Marins by Eric Guivarch.
- The national roadmap for the development of algae value chains was presented by Yas Farjad and Jean Piot (La direction générale des affaires maritimes, de la pêche et de l’aquaculture (DGAMPA)
- The Feel Alg’ project was presented by Blanche Lorry (Comité National Des Pêches Maritimes et des Élevages Marins (CNPMEM))
This workshop identified priority areas across the algae value chain, which will also be compared with those highlighted in workshops organised by the other European partners of the Biochains Atlantic project, with a view to strengthening the sector’s development at European level at the next phase of the project.
“This workshop fostered excellent synergy among the participating stakeholders, and we observed a clear commitment to finding collective solutions at regional and European level,” explained Gorenka Bojadzija Savic and Stéphane Tarrade, project coordinators for BIOCHAINS Atlantic at Biotech Santé Bretagne.
